During President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, he and First Lady Melania Trump shared a dance at the Liberty Ball. Lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman has reported about the conversation which the couple had during the event.
As the orchestra performed a soft, romantic song at the event, Donald and Melania went center stage. The couple moved gently to the music, with the President of the United States (POTUS) placing his arm tightly around the First Lady’s waist.
Melania laid her hand on her husband’s back, pulling her closer to him as they enjoyed a joyous moment and spoke in front of the audience.
According to Freeman, who is an Expert Witness Forensic Lip Reader with certification from the Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre at University College London, at some point, Melania stated, “Today is one we will never forget.”
Donald then replied, “You’re right, I’ll learn, I’ll fight.” The exchange grew even more personal as Melania assured her support with, “I got you.”
Freeman said Donald responded with, “We’ll see. Will you control it? Less tricky, less pushing away?” “It’s a no,” answered Melania, to which Donald reportedly acknowledged that he heard her.
Herve Pierre, Melania’s trusted stylist, designed the FLOTUS’ inauguration gown, working closely with her to bring her vision to life.
In a statement, Herve shared his gratitude for the opportunity and explained the inspiration behind the gown, saying, “It is a big honor […] It was clear that Mrs. Trump was gravitating toward a combination of black and white — true to her own style and vision.”
Melania and Donald’s dance at the Liberty Ball drew some internet reactions, with netizens offering a variety of perspectives on the occasion.
Some observers did not hesitate to criticize the encounter, remarking how uncomfortable the couple’s dance appeared. “Awkward. “You are lying if you don’t notice that,” said one viewer.
During the Commander-in-Chief Ball, Donald addressed the audience, greeting them with his signature vigor. “This is quite a gathering, huh?” the president asked.
